The Selkirk is a medium to large cat with heavy bone that gives it surprising weight. It has a round, broad, full-cheeked head with medium ears set well apart. Its eyes are large and rounded and set well apart. The Selkirk curly gene is dominant and is genetically unrelated to the other Rex breeds. Unlike other rex breeds, the Selkirk comes in longhaired and shorthaired varieties. The Selkirk Rex likes to be cuddled, is curious and likes to play. Selkirks are very robust and not easily frightened by household devices such as vacuum cleaners.
